4/3 Shillelagh Bar March on Through! Take home Winter Cup III! Shillelagh Bar / Astoria Lightning lift the Winter Cup III trophy high after winning three straight games yesterday and five over all in the tournament. After a first week tournament hiccup the Shillelagh Bar has not trailed in a game since. In a close semifinal match with a 2-1 lead mid way though the final period the Shillelagh's would open things up putting home the next two goals off of Rob Alibrandi and Nick Dimolous stick adding up to a 4-1 win, Dimoulas would finish the game with the hat trick. The fury would unleash into the Winter Cup III Finals as Shillelagh Bar would storm for eight goals in the fist game and six more in the second out scoring their opponents on the day 18-3. In game one of the finals it would be all about Rob Alibrandi, backed but his teams solid play. Alibrandi was a cut above the rest in this game hitting the back of the net six times and adding an assist for a seven point game. With the tournament pushed to the brink, winner take all, this game would also belong to Shillelagh Bar as Nick Dimoluas would have his say in this one. Nick Dimoluas would hit mesh five times in the tournament finale as the game would end 6-1 and the Winter Cup tournament would come to an end. I gotta say the tournament was a good one with six of the eleven games being decided by no more than two goals, four one goal games and three games that went to overtime. Rob Alibrandi finished on top of all scorers in tournament play with eighteen points, followed by teammate Nick Dimoluas who finished with sixteen points. Nick put up the most goals in the tournament with twelve as Goalie Giovanne "The Bay Stallion" Petre finished with top goalie honors with 2.00 Goals Against Average. The Cup will be for viewing for the next two week's at the Shillelagh Bar in Queens where Walt will be serving up half price drinks if you mention this write up. 3/26 Ft. Knox in OT! Move to the WC III Finals, Shillelagh Bar Win! Where down to our final three! Ft. Knox move into the WC III finals with a come from behind win, stay undefeated and move into the Winter Cup III Finals. With the score dead locked at two in the first OT session Mike Draheim would slide one by the goal keep for his second of the day but more important the Overtime winner. Ft. Knox tied the game late in the would be final session of the game off a deflection in front in a game that was a battle all the way through. Ft. Knox will now await the winner of the Kings Bay Shillelagh Bar match to see who they will face in the Winter Cup finals. Who ever Ft. Knox play they will have to be beat twice since they are still undefeated in tournament play. Shillelagh Bar came out strong from the drop of the puck as Rob Alibrandi would put home a beauty for a 1-0 lead. Shillelagh would add another, but before periods end the Bombers Dennis Millazo would put home a beauty of his own to make for a one goal game going into the final period of play. That next goal, the next goal would belong to Shillelagh Bar for a big two goal cushion on Alibrandi's second of the match and a 3-1 lead. The two teams would trade goals the rest of the way and Shillelagh Bar set's themselves up against Kings Bay for the right to go the Winter Cup III Finals. 3/19 WOW! What a day of Roller Hockey in the Bay! Ft. Knox and Kings Bay take two, Bombers and Shillelagh Bar advance to Week 2! Ft. Knox would finish their chances and feed off their goalies back (G. Post) to take their tournament opener while carrying their momentum into their next match. Mike Chindemi kept bringing the heat scoring a total of ten points in two games with seven goals and three assists. Ft. Knox advance into round two with a 2-0 record. Shillelagh Bar advanced into round two facing elimination with a big win in their second match putting up seven. N. Dimoulas, K. Melik and J. Barker all had two each. Team Kings Bay games would both need overtime but the team was successful in both extra sessions and a shoot out. Kings Bay's hero would be Anthony "Skip" Salvo scoring in the teams first games overtime session and then putting home the Shoot Out winner making Kings Bay go 2-0 on the day. They will meet Ft. Knox next week in the win bracket, the only two teams in the 2-0 slot. Brooklyn Bombers also advance in the second round holding off a late Aeros attack. Bombers lead 3-0 in the game on goals by Lou Montello, 6 and 16. Aeros would connect twice with less then five minutes to play as Bombers goalie Ralphie Bavarro would do his thing the rest of the way getting the Bombers into next week. They will face Shillelagh Bar in a elimination match. Winter Cup III a great day of roller hockey in the Bay! Round two will be next Saturday, all stats from the Winter Cup will be updated shortly.

Tournament Rules

Week 1 - Teams will be picked out randomly to play each other and a set schedule will be set. If a team losses both of their games in Week 1 they are eliminated from the tournament.

Week 2 - Teams that went 2-0 will play each other and teams that went 1-1 will play each other. The teams that lose in the 2-0 bracket will fall to the loss bracket and play against a team who has just won and knocked out a team in the 1-1 bracket. The teams that are 1-1 will all be facing elimination. We will use standings to determine who plays who in the loss bracket (points, +/-, or head to head to determine who get's the higher seeding) If needed we will go to best fit time slots for a team (worst case senerio) If there is only one team in the win bracket, they will play the lowest seeded team or second lowest seeded team if they already played a team the pervious week. We will try not to slot teams who played each other the pervious week unless they are the only two teams left in the bracket or if it's the finals.

Week 3 (championship round) Who ever is left will play.

Overtime Rules: In Week 1 over time will be 4 on 4 for 5 minutes and if game is undecided we will go to a shoot-out (3 shooters on each side). Rounds 3 and 4 will be 4 on 4 till we get our winner (no shoot outs). Rounds 5-6 will be 5 on 5 till we get our winner. (no shoot outs). Overtime losses are still losses and are only used for tie breaking reasons in standings. All Regular season rules apply to tournament except OT rules, please have your teams read rules page here.
